The artistic process: I start by combining turquoise blue and vanilla glass into a design in a thick round shape and fusing together. Turquoise and vanilla react in the kiln which create these dark lines between the colors. That piece is placed on a round ring with a hole in center that is elevated above the kiln floor. The kiln is programmed to heat to certain temperatures where I watch as the glass slowly drops through the inside of the rim until it touches the kiln floor, I then flash cool to annealing temperatures. Once it is fully annealed and cooled, I cut the top rim of glass off with a tile saw then grind and polish the top to a smooth finish. I added a base of the same colors for extra interest.
