Artistic Process: The design features an abstract of transparent orange embedded with pebbles that are swirls of yellow, orange and a bit of lemongrass. The first step was to create a stack of glass with swirls of yellow, orange and green. That glass was cut up into various small sizes and then full fused into "pebbles". Then a glass was made with transparent orange as a base, adding the pebbles in a pattern and adding more transparent orange to embed the pebbles - this is fired to 1450 degrees in a dam to keep the glass thick. The next step was to draw the design onto the glass with a waterproof marker then cut out on my ring saw. Once I finished sawing, I ground smooth all the edges and then it was fire polished in the kiln. The music note is epoxied to the stand that was made by cutting three pieces for varying sizes and tack fusing them into the stand.
Isn't this suspended design cool?

Making music notes was inspired while I was playing the piano. I was learning a new piece that was complex for me. The music notes were staring back at me. All of a sudden, I started thinking about the concept of a music note sculpture. I immediately went to my studio to test out the idea and continue to refine the design as well as creating various color patterns.
