The artistic process: I started by making glass pebbles which takes several firings to combine the colors of yellow, green, orange, white and clear and get the swirls of patterns into "pebbles". I then cut a piece of clear to fit a dam mold and laid out the pebbles into a design and fired to a full fuse (flat/smooth). That piece was placed on a square ring with a round hole in center that is elevated above the kiln floor. The kiln is programmed to heat to certain temperatures where I watch as the glass slowly drops through the inside of the rim until it touches the kiln floor, I then flash cool to annealing temperatures. Once it is fully annealed and cooled, I cut the top rim of glass off with a tile saw then grind and polish the top to a smooth finish.
