The Mountains are Calling

The Rainbow Mountains in Peru are a dramatic geological formation known for sharp, jagged peaks that resemble a colorful, woven Andean poncho. Towering at over 5,200 meters (17,000 feet), their slopes feature striking, vibrant stripes of color created by ancient mineral deposits like iron, copper, and sulfur. They were revealed in recent years after glacial ice melted due to climate change. 

    

Artistic Process:  A variety of glass was made using several different techniques.  These glasses were cut and combined based on my vision and design, then multiple additional firings with highlights and detailing added including a "rocky" trail.    

The glass stand is kilnformed into a shape including a slot to support the sculpture with coldworking to ensure the bottom is level and sturdy.
