Sparkling Portal

Inspiration:  Sparkling mix of colors, putting together puzzles and thinking of portals.

Artistic Process: A mosaic of various dichroic glass are carefully put together on a background of black glass.  This is fused in a large sheet dam, then the fused mosaic was cut into the square size for the portal in the design using a tile saw.  squiggle shapes were cut from dichroic glass to highlight the portal.  These component were tack fired to a base black glass in diamond shape. 

The artwork is mounted on brushed stainless steel, wired for hanging with welded brackets to keep the artwork flat and straight on the wall with no tilting.

Dimensions:  10" wide x 10"tall x 1.5" deep

• Dichroic glass - Thin layers of metallic oxides, such as titanium, silicon, and magnesium are deposited upon the surface of the glass in a high temperature, vacuum furnace. This creates a brilliant coating on the glass that displays more than one color, especially when viewed from different angles.
