Monarch Layover at the Dinnerplate Impelo Hibiscus

Glass art sculpture Inspired by the butterflies and bees around our hibiscus

Artistic Process: Kilnfired glass abstract background and kilnformed glass stand.  Kiln-casted monarch butterflies, dinnerplate Impelo hibiscus flowers, ladybugs, bee and caterpillar are installed with either rare-earth magnets or stand-offs made for glass installations.

I designed the colors and structure of the glass and then manipulated the glass at high temperatures to swirl the colors into patterns.  After cold working, the glass is firepolished while adding texture. The glass stand is kilnformed into a shape to support the sculpture with coldworking to ensure the bottom is level and sturdy.
