Thin Red Line Badge Sculpture
The making of this artwork starts with cutting glass in a square shape black with a red stripe - 3 layers of glass which is dammed to hold its shape and fused together in the kiln. Next I draw the badge on the glass with a waterproof marker and then use the ring saw to cut out the badge shape. After grinding the edges smooth, it was fire polished in the kiln so all the edges are shiny. The stand is made with 3 layers of cut glass, cut in such a way as to leave a space for the sculpture - each layer is cut differently to ensure smooth strong seams. this glass is dammed to keep its shape. after coldworking the edges, the stand is slumped over a special stainless steel mold to get the shape and height.
