Reactive Aqua Blue and Vanilla Cream Music Note Sculpture

5.375" tall x 2.5" wide x 1.675" deep

The design features aqua blue and vanilla in patterns.  The first step was to make a temporary mold of a music note,  then to create the swirls of each color into a glass/design.  The glass is then fired to cast into the mold.  aqua blue and vanilla cream have different properties - one glass is sulfur bearing and the other is copper bearing which creates reacts when adjacent to each other in the kiln - showing as black in this music note.  After that firing, I ground smooth all the edges and then it was fire polished in the kiln.  The music note is epoxied to a stand that was made by cutting three pieces for varying sizes and tack fusing them into the stand. 

Making music notes was inspired while I was playing the piano.  I was learning a new piece that was complex for me.  The music notes were staring back at me.  All of a sudden, I started thinking about the concept of a music note sculpture.  I immediately went to my studio to test out the idea and continue to refine the design as well as creating various color patterns.
